Braveheart and Highlander Tour
Scotland is the land of the brave. Often the reality of the lives of our national figures is more amazing than the heroic legends they have inspired.
Whether you are a serious scholar of Scottish history or simply love the movies, this tour allows you enter into the world known to William Wallace and some of the other great heroes who have helped shape the destiny of Scotland and her people.
The Monument to Sir William Wallace dominates the skyline over Stirling and it soon becomes apparent that the 'Braveheart Myth' has its roots firmly in reality.
The rolling Stirlingshire countryside provides our starting point for this cycle tour. After exploring the ancient hilltop fortress of Stirling Castle and the impressive Wallace Monument, we journey on into the rich farmland that surrounds this ancient town.
We soon arrive in country once home to another of our national heroes, no one less than Rob Roy MacGregor, or 'Rob Roy' as he has become affectionately known.
This whole region seems to be made for cycling, with its network of quiet roads, bike tracks and off-road mountain and forest trails. As we explore the unbelievably scenic landscape this area offers, we encounter constant reminders of the great legends who once inhabited the region.
The Four Day Tour is centred on Stirlingshire and The Trossachs regions, providing ample opportunities for merging into these almost mythical lands of our heroes. The Seven Day Tour takes us further north-west, towards the coast, into the wild lands and untamed terrain of Lochaber, Inverness-shire and The Isle of Skye.
Most Scots consider this area to be the undisputed territory of The Highlander.
Much more than just a mythic figure embodying a free and courageous spirit, the Highlander is the very essence of what it means to be Scottish. For those who feel a spiritual bond with this land of mountains and lochs, the Highlander is in our heart and soul, and to come here is to come home in the truest sense.
We visit pre-historic dwellings, known as brochs, whose occupants built sturdy defenses against forces who remain, to this day, a total mystery.
Taking a small ferry across the sea to Skye, we enjoy a short tour on the island.
The next place of pilgrimage is the beautiful and brooding Eilean Donan Castle. Used as the location for the film 'Highlander'. This castle is even more impressive in its natural setting with the dark, misty Isle of Skye in the distance.
Our tour continues along the coastline passing villages and vistas so stunning that you will savour the memory for a lifetime.
