Sacred Sites and Secret Places

This tour takes us to Perthshire (4 day tour) and on into Argyll (7 day tour).

We journey into the very heart of Scotland, steeped in mystery and romance, where the landscape varies between luscious tree-lined glens and wide open spaces, whose rugged beauty is rarely surpassed. This is the land so beloved of our ancestors.

The Highlands provide the dramatic backdrop for our explorations where standing stones and sacred sites can still be found.

Our tour takes us into Glen Lyon, perhaps Scotland's most beautiful glen. Little has changed here since the time of the Druids. The ancient Celts were drawn to this region whose many stone circles, temples and places of worship still remain. This is a haven for cyclists.

Following quiet roads and trails, we enter a land of breathtaking scenery and history.

Lochs, rivers, mountains, castles and ancient Caledonian woodlands combine to create a landscape that is unique to Scotland.

We stop at the Fortingall Yew Tree, the oldest tree in Europe, passing thatched cottages and Roman ruins. This rural idyll will delight the naturalists, historians and romantics amongst us.

For those continuing on to Argyll, we experience a coastline which is undoubtedly one of the most varied and beautiful in all the world. In this area, first named Dalriada by the ancients, standing stones, megalithic monuments and stone circles still populate the landscape. These sites have been places of pilgrimage and worship for over three thousand years and still retain the power to inspire today's seeker.

The islands of Argyll, notably Mull & Iona, are only a short ferry ride from the coast at Oban.

Few landscapes compare with the remote splendour to be found here, and many cyclists consider this coastline to offer some of the country's finest scenery.
